چکیده

The self-binding energy and stability of a galaxy in MOND-based gravity are curiously decreasing functions of its center of mass acceleration (of the order of 10 10m/s) towards neighbouring mass concentrations. A tentative indication of this breaking of the Strong Equivalence Principle in field galaxies is the RAVE-observed escape speed in the Milky Way. Another consequence is that satellites of field galaxies will move on nearly Keplerian orbits at large radii (100 500 kpc), with a declining speed below the asymptotically constant naive MOND prediction. But conseqences of an environment-sensitive gravity are even more severe in clusters, where member galaxies accelerate fast: no more Dark-Halo-like potential is present to support galaxies, meaning that extended axisymmetric disks of gas and stars are likely unstable. These predicted reappearance of asymptotic Keplerian velocity curves and disappearance of “stereotypic galaxies” in clusters are falsifiable with targeted surveys. Evaluation of New MOND Interpolating Function with Rotation Curves of Galaxies

The rotation curves of a sample of 46 low- and high-surface brightness galaxies are considered in the context of Milgrom's modi_ed dynamics (MOND) to test a new interpolating function proposed by Zhao et al. (2010) [1] and compare with the results of simple interpolating function. The predicted rotation curves are calculated from the total baryonic matter based on the B-band surface photometry,...

The recent findings of Romanowsky et al., of an “unexpectedly” small mass discrepancy within 5 effective radii in several elliptical galaxies, are not surprising in the context of MOND. As we show here, they are, in fact, in full concordance with its predictions. One is dealing with high-surface-density galaxies with mean accelerations rather larger than the acceleration constant of MOND. These...

We present MOND analysis for several of the lowest mass disc galaxies currently amenable to such analysis–with (baryonic) masses below 4 · 108M⊙. The agreement is good, extending the validity of MOND and its predicted mass velocity relation, to such low masses. Subject headings: dark matter galaxies: kinematics and dynamics

Confrontation of MOND with the rotation curves of early-type disc galaxies

We extend the MOND analysis to a sample of 17 high surface brightness, early-type disc galaxies with rotation curves derived from a combination of 21cm Hi line observations and optical spectroscopic data. A number of these galaxies have asymptotic rotation velocities between 250 and 350 km/s making them among the most massive systems (in terms of baryonic mass) considered in the context of MOND...
